My husband and I came here on a Friday night for dinner as we were craving for fish and chips. He recommended My Place and because I've never heard of it before, I said let's go! He has been here a few times.
From the outside, it looks very runned down and the plaid curtains were falling apart. If my husband hadn't recommended this place, I would have passed
Anyways, we went inside and the waitress told us to sit anywhere. I didn't want to sit at the booth, I was scared something was going to crawl out from the crevasses of the couch or in the corner of the floor.
So I picked a table. The interior looked like a cottage, a bunch of mismatched items that could be purchased from a garage sale.
We each ordered the special - fried grouper and fries on the side. It was DELICIOUS!!!! The fish was fried to perfection, very crispy! The tar tar sauce went well with it. The fries were thick and crispy too! It was worth the $8.
Despite the interior of this restaurant, I'd come back and eat here again!! -

Everything is freshly done here and relatively good, the entire restaurant is a little sad and dated, but service is friendly and prompt. They also do a lot of take out with the surrounding office buildings and it's all a decent price.

This is one of the best places I've had fish 'n' chips. We stumbled across this hidden gem through on-line reviews and certainly were not disappointed. The fish was outstanding and fresh, the haggis was also amazing. The service was also very good and courteous - not expected in a casual place like this. It also featured old time UK memorabilia and as mentioned haggis, and mushy peas. The price was also amazing ($6.50 for grouper fish 'n' chips from 1100-1500 hrs, $1 extra after hours) and is one of the best places one can find this part of town.
Reason it did not get 5-stars: 1. fries were only so-so; 2. place looked quite dated and in need of some repair - but I didn't come here for ambience; 3. the tartar/malt vinegar came in bulk in plastic containers However in spite of that I still give it thumbs up and 4-4.5 stars because the fish (Haddock, grouper) outshines its imperfections
Highly recommended for a simple meal - and will no doubt return. -

This place serves fish and chips. When you walk in, you'll see a lot of old memorabilias. I heard that it used to be run by a white family and they retired so now a chinese family runs this place.
If you want to try this place at a reasonable price, you must get their lunch special. The batter is perfectly crusted and it comes with fries. They will also give you packets of tartar sauce to use when you eat your filet.
The place is old but that's the charm of it. You are transformed into being on a seaside nova scotia restaurant in the heart of toronto. You will find a lot of old seniors here eating their fish and chips. -

Came in on a tuesday night got a halibut and chips to go. The order was ready in good time, and I couldn't wait to get home before I dug my hand into the bag for some chips. First impression: disappointed. While the component of the chip itself was good (thick, slightly crispy), but the oil they used was obviously old and needed changing last week. The fish itself was also good, but ruined by the oil. The experience could be easily so much better if they changed the oil more frequently.
